But here&amp;#39;s a thought-- what if you plan ahead and in good faith, use exhibits that require the expert to leave the witness stand to use or handle because of weight, distance, type of item?  Makes the entire process much more fluid and almost completely eliminates the judicial discretion issue. I&amp;#39;m particularly partial to the idea of getting an expert out of the witness stand (with the Court&amp;#39;s permission, of course), to go to the Elmo, or to stand before the jury with a model (orthopedic models are uniquely good), or simply use a laser pointer to point out specific elements of a photo or other exhibit.
